Baby Ballet

Baby Ballet is a 40-minute class for 2.5 – 3 year olds. This class is designed for our youngest dancers who want to express their independence without the assistance of mom or dad. Dancers will have fun learning pre-ballet movement to popular children's music through singing and movement games. Props such as pom-pons, hula hoops, rhythm sticks and bean bags are used to enhance the learning experience. Class sizes are kept very small to assure plenty of individual attention for our youngest dancers.

3.5 – 4 Year Old Ballet/Tap

3.5 – 4 year old Ballet/Tap is a 1-hour combination class. This class introduces young students to ballet, tap, and basic tumbling skills through imagination activities, movement games and singing. Students will have fun learning dance along with the use of props such as pom-pons, hula hoops, rhythm sticks and bean bags.

It is important for students to wear proper dance attire and shoes so the teacher can critic the dancers' proper form and alignment and to prevent injury. 4.5 – 6 year old Ballet/Tap is a 1-hour combination class. Students will continue to enjoy expressing themselves through the art of dance in this fun and interactive class. This class is built on the basic movements learned in the 3.5 – 4 year old Ballet/Tap combination class but is still appropriate for the first-time dancer. At this level, students will learn more challenging tap and ballet skills through imagination activities, movement games and singing. Dancers will enjoy learning basic ballet and tap terminology along with fun and engaging games.

“Chance 2 Dance” – Special Needs

The “Chance 2 Dance” Special Needs class is a 40-minute class where students will learn the basics of movement, rhythm, and the fundamentals of ballet (such as the five feet positions), as well as reinforcing and practicing basic academic skills (letters, numbers, shapes, etc.). Stretching, dancing with props, enjoying music and expressing emotion will be a part of every class.

It is important for students to wear proper dance attire and shoes so the teacher can critic the dancers' proper form and alignment and to prevent injury. Long hair is required to be pulled back away from the face. Dangling jewelry is not permitted. Teen Ballet/Lyrical

Teen ballet is a 1 hour and 15 minute class. Students perform barre exercises, as well as center floor and traveling steps. Focus is on maintaining proper alignment, developing strength and endurance, and increasing flexibility and extension. Dancers learn turns, jumps, slow balances (adagio exercises), and complex choreography. Ballet class etiquette is reinforced and practiced. The Lyrical portion of the class uses a combination of ballet and jazz that challenges dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. Students with a minimum of two years of ballet are eligible for pointe shoes. Student must have Ms. Megan’s approval before purchasing pointe shoes.

All Boy Hip Hop

All Boy Hip Hop is a 1 hour class for boys ages 7 and up. Boys will learn basic-intermediate hip hop choreography combined with an introduction to break dancing. The class will incorporate stretching, strengthening, and building confidence in boys who love to dance.

Strength, Stretching, and Tumbling for Dancers

Strength, Stretching, and Tumbling for Dancers is a 1 hour class. Dancers are required to be able to do a back bend and cartwheel to be eligible for the SST class. The Strength portion of the class will focus on building the strength of the core, wrists, legs, and some arms. The Stretching portion of the class will focus on increasing flexibility including lots of splits, ankle, back, and shoulders stretching. The stretching will prepare the dancers to do needles, heel stretches, leg holds, scorpions, and aide in tumbling. The Tumbling portion of the class will be spent mastering tumbling skills such as aerials, front walkovers, back walkovers, back handsprings, and back tucks.

Beginning Tumbling

Beginning Tumbling is a 1 hour class. Dancers are required to be at least 4 years old to be eligible for the class. The class will focus on increasing flexibility and basic tumbling. Jumps, Turns, & Leaps is a 30 minute class. This class focusses on teaching the proper technique for a variety of jumps, turns, and leaps. This class is for 1st grade all the way to teens.

Adult Ballet, Tap, & Jazz

Adult Ballet, Tap, & Jazz is a 1-hour class. The ballet portion of the class is technique based that strengthens and conditions the body while learning and performing barre work, center floor, turns, leaps, and progressions. Learn great posture and enhance core strength and flexibility. The tap portion of the class focusses on standard tap technique, as well as, developing coordination, concentration, rhythm, and speed. The jazz portion of the class includes stretching, across the floor exercises, center floor exercises, and learning dance combinations to fun upbeat music. This class is a great workout. No dance experience required.

Contemporary is a 1 hour class for students in the 6th grade and older. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Ms. Megan P. - Owner/Artistic Director

Megan Park is the owner and artistic director of Chance 2 Dance Studio. Megan has a dance career that spans 27 years. She began dancing at the age of six at Dance Unlimited in Van Buren, AR, and is trained in ballet, pointe, lyrical, tap, jazz, and hip hop. She was a ballet and jazz instructor for Dance Unlimited for four years. In high school, Megan danced for the Van Buren Pointer Prancer dance team and was captain her senior year. While in high school, she was a two-time National Dance Alliance All-American and Universal Dance Association All-star, and had the opportunity to dance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. In college, Megan was a dancer for the University of Arkansas Pom Squad. She graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and began her career in Tulsa, OK. While in Tulsa, she danced professionally for the Tulsa 66ers NBA D-League dance team. She was a ballet, pom, and jazz instructor for four years at Miss Kristy’s School of Dance in Broken Arrow, OK. After moving back to Arkansas, she was a jazz instructor for two years at Little Rock School of Dance.

Ms. Megan will be teaching little ones, teens, adults, competition teams, and “Chance 2 Dance” – Special Needs classes. She is so excited to be back in her hometown of Van Buren and give back to a community that gave so much to her!


Ms. Alicia

Alicia Robinson started taking dance at the age of four at Dance Unlimited in Van Buren, AR. She began with tap and ballet and later added jazz, acrobatics and pointe to her schedule. Alicia enjoyed teaching and demonstrating at Dance Unlimited through high school. Alicia was a member of the dance team in junior high and danced for the Van Buren Pointer Prancer dance team in high school. She attended the University of Central Arkansas where she was a member of the Honeybears Dance team who attended nationals.

Ms. Alicia will be teaching 1-3 grade jazz and hip hop, and 1-3 grade and 4-6 grade pom. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with C2D and can't wait to dance with our little ones.


Ms. Laurie

Laurie Armstrong started taking gymnastics at the age of five. She took recreational gymnastics off and on until junior high school when she tried out for a competitive gymnastics team, the Arlington Twisters in Arlington, TX. Laurie competed for five years winning many awards and attending gymnastics camps. She began teaching recreational gymnastics from ages 2-13 her senior year of high school, and continued teaching after moving to Arkansas in her early 20’s. Laurie was the lead girls’ gymnastics instructor and level 5 girls competitive team coach for Trinity Gymnastics. After leaving Trinity Gymnastics she taught recreational gymnastics and coached the level 5 girls’ competitive team for Flame Gymnastics.

Ms. Laurie will be teaching beginning tumbling and Strength, Stretching, and Tumbling for Dancers. She is excited to get back to teaching again with Chance 2 Dance Studio.


Ms. Emilee

Emilee Higdon Garner is a Crawford County native and currently resides in Fort Smith with her husband, Matthew, and their son, Henry. She teaches first grade at Westwood Elementary School in Greenwood. Emilee recently graduated with a graduate degree in School Counseling & Guidance from Arkansas Tech University. In her free time, Emilee loves traveling, spending time outdoors, working out, and trying new recipes.

Ms. Emilee will being teaching 1-3 grade ballet and tap, and 1-3 grade ballet and jazz. With 16 years of dance instruction, she is excited to share her passion of dance with younger students in the river valley.


Ms. Megan C. - Director of Performance Teams

Megan Chronister is a dancer with over 20 years of dance experience. She began her dance training at Dance Unlimited at age 5. Her training includes classes in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe and hip hop. She later became an instructor for jazz and tap while at Dance Unlimited. She was a member of the Alma High School dance team her sophomore year. The team won state in jazz and she was selected as a Universal Dance Team All-Star Dancer. She was an Alma High School Varsity Cheerleader her junior and senior years, winning state and competing at the Universal Cheer Association Nationals in Orlando, Fl. Megan was a member of the Arkansas Tech University Golden Girls Dance Team. During and after college, she continues to choreograph for High School and Junior High teams in AR and OK and has enjoyed watching her routines compete at the state level. In addition to studio training, she has attended Tremaine Dance Conventions, National Dance Alliance Conventions, attended class given by Stephen Boss, aka “Twitch” and has participated in the BYB hip hop clinics for over 15 years. Megan also judges cheer and dance tryouts in AR and OK each spring. Megan is a Registered Dental Hygienist who enjoys spending time with her husband and their Golden Retriever, Stella. Her hobbies include running, cycling, and anything outdoors. She serves the community by volunteering for Arkansas Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic and the Sebastian County Community Dental Clinic..

Ms. Megan will be teaching 4-6 grade and teen jazz and hip hop, as well as, directing the C2D Performance Teams. Megan is excited to continue her dance journey by helping to develop young minds through dance, as well as boosting self-esteem.


Mr. Joseph

Joseph Cooper has over 10 years of dance experience. He is trained in hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, and jazz. He started taking gymnastics at 5 years old at Flame Gymnastics. Joseph was the Arkansas state champion in the 3rd grade. He started dancing at Alma High School and was on the Alma High School dance team his senior year. While dancing for Alma High School he helped choreograph several shows and competition hip hop routines. He was also on the cheer team at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Joseph made it 3 rounds on the FOX hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance in 2014. Joseph taught at Lifesong Dance Studio in 2011. He continues to teach the Torch Youth Dance Team at Christ for the World Church and has traveled all around performing praise dances.

Mr. Joseph will be teaching all boy hip hop and 6th grade and up contemporary. Joseph is looking forward to working with Chance 2 Dance Studio's guys!


Ms. Parker

Parker Tounzen is a former dance studio owner and has been teaching and coaching dance for 7 years. Her love of dance started in 8th grade when she joined the Coleman Junior High Steppers dance team and then dancing for the Pointer Prancers dance team at Van Buren High School. Parker helped lead the Prancer dance team to 3 consecutive state championship titles. She has taught ballet, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics, tumbling, contemporary, lyrical, coached pageantry, and has also choreographed for school cheer and dance teams. Parker's biggest passion is coaching competitive dance where her choreography has won multiple titles and special awards. Parker is 24 years old and is a substitute teacher for Van Buren and Alma Elementary schools. She currently lives in Van Buren with her 5 month old daughter Finley.

Ms. Parker will be working with the C2D competition team. She enjoys sharing the love of dance with young dancers and helping them create a story with choreography!


A fall program will be held in October and a winter program will be held in December for the school year. A summer program will be held the last week of the summer session. These programs will allow parents to attend their students' classes to see their progress and watch them perform. For the younger students a cookie party will follow.

An end of the year recital will be held on Saturday June 2nd, 2018 (dress rehearsal on Friday June 1st) at the Van Buren Fine Arts Center to showcase the C2D Dancers' hard work and accomplishments. Recital is not required, but all students are encouraged to participate. Recital fee and costume fees to be determined.

C2D feels everyone should be able to experience the joy of dance! This program is a great way for children with special needs to get involved in an extracurricular activity while improving motor skills, confidence, and socialization. This "Chance 2 Dance" class is a 40 minute class where students will learn the basics of movement, rhythm, and the fundamentals of ballet (such as the five feet positions), as well as reinforcing and practicing basic academic skills (letters, numbers, shapes, etc.). Stretching, dancing with props, enjoying music and expressing emotion will be a part of every class.

C2D feels everyone should be able to experience the joy of dance! The mission of Give a Child the Chance 2 Dance is to give an opportunity to community members to not only help support local talent, but to make a child's dream come true. The program allows sponsors to help dancers with financial need to attend Chance 2 Dance Studio classes and participate in the end of the year dance recital. You can of course contribute any amount or you can opt to donate a semester tuition or a full year tuition (based on the dancer taking one class per week). Every penny goes directly towards current and future dancers' tuition and dance school fees. Donations may or may not be tax deductible; consult your accountant. Sponsors will have special seating at the end of the year dance recital and will be listed in the recital program. The Chance 2 Dance Studio Competition Team is a performance group for girls and boys ages 6-18. This program is for students that show an exceptional dedication and talent for dance. These dancers will be selected through an audition process and extensively train in all areas of dance. Competition Team members will grow both technically and stylistically each year with their participation. The C2D Competition Team will perform at various competitions, conventions and local venues. C2D Competition Team dancers will be required to take fundamental classes along with competition rehearsal classes.
To be eligible to audition, dancers must enroll in the age appropriate Competition Team Audition Clinic class held during the Summer Session. Dancers will learn the choreography piece that will be performed during auditions. Auditions will be held at the conclusion of the Summer Session.
